Although somewhat underdeveloped, Hong Kong still has plenty of action on offer for Mountain Bikers. In the last years advocacy groups has been hard at work in trying to press the local governments to open more legal trails throughout the territories. For Lantau fans of Mountain Biking the main legal venue is definitely the Chi Ma Wan peninsula. This trail offers plenty of challenges for the avid biker but are still manageable for the novices, and both hard tail and suspended bikes work great. In Hong Kong the premier bike events are organized by Action Asia Foundation and/or Hong Kong Mountain Bike Association (HKMBA). HKMBA offers plenty of introduction for activities in Hong Kong. As always these events are great for beginners to advanced and offers great comradeship. At Lantau Buffalos many of us are thrilled about Mountain Biking and often engage in the following activities: - XC Mountain Biking around Muiwo - Chi Ma Wan Peninsula - PuiO. Hard tails work but supspended bikes are recommended - Downhill Mountain Biking at Tai Mo Shan (see useful numbers and contacts, Howard is the man with the van for transportation, please advise HKR for tunnel permit) - XC/All-mountain in Discovery Bay's Monastery trail - XC Biking on Lamma Island If you are keen to hook up with us or just want to ride along you should jump on the Nim Shue Wan ferry to Mui Wo. There are always bikers that are keen to ride in a group. You should note that to ride any of the legal trails in Hong Kong you should obtain a permit from the Agriculture, fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) website. Although very rare, if you fail to show such permit to any country park ranger you may end up in court and get fined.
